Welcome back to Term 2.

          Explorers 1 and 2 Newsletter
                                 Term 2 Week 1 2018

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to Term 2 in Explorers 1 and 2, we hope you have had a restful and enjoyable break.  We are looking forward to a busy term with a variety of learning experiences planned.

We have a new New Entrant class starting in Room 6A in Week 3 and this class will be taught by Ms Peta Berry.
Focus for learning this term:

This is a brief outline of the learning programmes.

Literacy and Numeracy:
These essential learning areas form the basis of all class programmes throughout the year.  The strand focus for Mathematics will be Geometry and Measurement.

Physical Education and Health:
In Health we will continue to develop our Kia Kaha programme.
As you may already know all children at St Martins will be attending a water safety week at Pioneer Pool in Term 2.  Explorers 1 and 2 are scheduled to do this in Week 3. This will be a valuable learning experience and we will spend time in Week 1 and 2 preparing the children for the Pioneer Pool visit.
In PE we will continue with our usual fitness programme and we will also be developing the children’s coordination with a focus on skipping skills.

Inquiry - Science:
Life Matters-Looking at the habitats of living things.

Arts:
The Visual Art theme is Sculpture, 3D modeling/carving.
All students attend two dance and drama days per term with Trudy Rowe and Helen Murray.  We will also have a visit from the Court Theatre later in the term.

Te Reo:
Days of the week and counting.

Water Safety Week: Week 3 14th - 18th May
If you have not already done so, please return permission slips this week. If you have volunteered to help with supervision your child’s homeclass teacher will be in contact with you.
Just to remind you:
Your child will need named togs and a named towel in a sturdy swimming bag.

If your child requires any medication (eg asthma inhaler) or has any medical issue we should know about please let home class teacher know immediately. Please note if your child has had diarrhoea or vomiting in the 2 weeks before swimming, or has open sores or wounds, we cannot allow them to enter the water.

Lunches:
Keep up the great work with trying to use less packaging in your child’s lunchbox. This makes a difference to the rubbish in and around our playground. It has been pleasing to see that some children have no plastic or paper wrap at all.

Punctuality:
Please ensure that your child is at school on time.  The children are able to go to their classrooms at 8.30am when the first bell goes, and must be ready to start their day by 8.45am.
It is important with the building work beginning this term that children are not on the school grounds before 8.15.  This is a safety issue, especially with large machinery and deliveries of building supplies.
Reporting Conferences:
If your child is scheduled to have a reporting conference this term you will receive a note outlining the time and booking details.  Keep an eye out for this in the next week.
Please do not hesitate to see your child’s teacher/s if you have any queries or concerns.
